70 m2 apartment refurbishment at Kolonaki

The original apartment is part of a building constructed in 1950 located downtown Athens, and has a total surface of 170 m2. The goal of the refurbishment was to split it into two new separate residential spaces, for one inhabitant each.

During design, the goal outlined was to modernize the environment based on current living terms, such as the unification of living room and kitchen. In addition, both inhabitants are owners of a large selection of books, so the new bookcases were designed to occupy a symbolic position in the apartment’s space.

The second apartment has a surface of 70m2 and faces the back of the building. The main challenge during design was to reinforce the insufficient natural lighting with hidden artificial lights.

Even though both of these spaces were constructed with the inhabitants’ specific needs in mind, the intent was to apply a consistent aesthetic tone.
