Set on a pine-covered plot, along one of the most beautiful coastlines of Attica, the seaside house has direct access to the sea and its northern facade overlooks the Saronic Gulf. The proposal aims to replace an existing building and to highlight the natural beauty of the plot, as per the owners’ specification.
Architecturally, the aim was to site the extensive program of the house, 2000m2 in total, in such a way that it would maintain a discreet presence from the side of the road, on one hand, and be harmoniously integrated in the natural environment, on the other. With that in mind, the house is developed on the location of the existing building, on two levels and one basement with auxiliary uses, as suggested by the topography of the plot.
The house consists of two main volumes: the social area of the house is in the east wing, while the west wing contains the family’s private quarters. The main vertical circulation routes in the house are found at the juncture between the two volumes.
The basic materials used are exposed concrete, stone, glass, and wood.
A characteristic element is the strong presence of vegetation on each level of the building, which creates a feeling of proximity to the natural ground. The prominent green roof and the choice of orientation, which maximizes natural sunlight in places such as the children’s backyard and the swimming pool, underline the design of an environmentally friendly, energy-efficient home.
